How long has your company been in operation?
Our family at PRECISION has been serving the wire industry for nearly 50 years. In fact, the three founding partners have over a century of combined experience in the wire and cable industry. Our Company President and co-founder, George Webb, also was instrumental in setting up and overseeing the first multi-wire operation in the US. Our experience and expertise in the industry is second to none. Click here to read more.

Who pays for shipping?
The customer is responsible for all shipping costs to and from Precision. When we send product to the customer, the customer pays "Freight Collect" or Freight on Board (F.O.B.).

Can PRECISION customize flyers and equipment to suit our company's particular needs? Yes. Our company's origins can be traced to precisely that aspect of our operation. We work with our clients to develop the equipment most suitable and beneficial to their needs.

What is the lead time?
Depending on the quantity and type of equipment ordered, lead time will vary. However, it can typically be expected that, including time in transit, an order of 50 units would arrive in 3 to 4 weeks.
For equipment purchases, lead time would be measured from the receipt of downpayment.
Your purchaser should ask for clarification at the time of the order.

How does pricing compare with the rest of the industry?
Our competitors routinely shake their heads in disbelief at our pricing, quality and speed. Our customers do the same. Please call for a quote on any equipment or reel maintenance servicing you may require.

Why are your wire flyers so affordable compared to your competitor's similar units?
Some of our more well-known competitors tend to fall into the trap of overdesigning their product. Related costs are passed on to the buyer, and the result is a complex unit that becomes quite expensive. Our competitors lose sight of the real goal: To make your wire process efficient, economical and profitable. We are able to keep our flyers affordable without sacrificing quality or performance.

What makes your wire flyers better than those of your competitors?
Our service and dedication to the customer is unmatched, evidenced by our warranty. Our flyers are designed to have minimal structural flex, with parts that resist breaking, and yet maintain their lightweight construction. Fit and finish is superior and, side by side, the amount of wobble in our competitors' product becomes alarmingly obvious. The difference is reflected in your products' consistency.

Are you the company that makes the cheap flyers?
No. There is nothing cheap about our flyers; they are competitively priced, especially when compared to similar models from other manufacturers. Efficiency of design not only reduces our cost, but increases durability, and the savings is passed on to our customers, both at time of purchase and through the life of the product. Their ease of operation, durability and low price make our products the economically responsible choice.
"There is nothing more expensive than the cost of poor quality."

Why should we use a flyer-style payoff instead of motorized payoffs? First, our flyers are about 1/5th the purchase price of a motorized payoff.
Second, operating cost is considerably lower. In addition to not requiring your most skilled operators to run them, our flyers use no electricity. A motorized payoff, by comparison, uses about the same electricity as a typical hot tub. Electricity is only getting more expensive, not less. Imagine filling your factory floor with hot tubs?
Third, flyer style payoffs have no expensive drives, complicated circuits, sensitive motherboards or costly components to replace. When a flyer is out of service, it just needs to be swapped with another to get your line back up and running.

Are discounts available for high volume customers?
We routinely offer discounts to high volume customers. Typically, quantities of 25 or more have a discount applied, with greater discounts, in quantity increments, added.

Is it necessary to purchase Tension Equalizers for use with a wire payoff system? Lack of proper tension control in your process will be reflected in the quality of your product. "High-strand" can be eliminated by use of a properly fitted Tension Equalizer. Tension Equalizers are not necessary, but they certainly improve the quality of your product.

Is there support available to get our operation up to speed in the Multi-wire process?
Yes. One of our experts will personally assist your plant manager in setting up your Multi-wire operation, from Wire Payoffs selection to Tension control to bunching machine.
[Back to List]
What sizes of reels and spools can be serviced by PRECISION?
Our state of the art, custom built hydraulic machinery can facilitate tiny 3" spools, as well as the giant 110" Reels that our competitors can not. Our largest machine is over 14 feet tall.

[Back to List]
What is the turnaround time on reel services?
Our plant and technicians currently can fully process (straighten, clean, balance, paint and stencil) 500, average condition, 30" Rod Reels per day. We adjust our schedule and production to meet yours.
[Back to List]
Why is it important to have reels and spools routinely cleaned / sandblasted?
Corrosion and other residues left on the surface of a reel can become attached to the surface of virgin wire and wire products. This dust will impede proper adhesion of the insulated coating to the wire.

[Back to List]
Why is it important to have reels routinely serviced?
A poorly maintained reel can abrade and corrode virgin wire. An unbalanced or bent reel can cause uneven winding on the reel itself, further reducing your control over the quality of wire product your plant produces. Reels with knicks, "burrs" or sharp edges on the drum can break or otherwise damage the wire. Additionally, a flange that has become either concave or convex (bulging in or out, respectively), can do the same.

[Back to List]
What is the importance of dynamic balancing in the wire process? An unbalanced reel will cause uneven tension in your wire process and cause inconsistencies in your product. It will lead to wire breaks, returned product and scrap.

How straight is "straight," at PRECISION?
We are able to boast that our tolerances are closer than new. That says it all.
[Back to List]
Do you use heat to straighten a bent reel? Absolutely not. When applied to metal, heat causes the material to lose strength, and the same repair will need to be performed on a more regular basis. Our specialists utilize custom-made, state-of-the-art hydraulic machinery that we designed and built - specifically - for heat-less straightening of your reels and spools. Flanges are pressed, like a shirt, all the way around until it meets and holds the desired tolerance. We straighten reels the only way, the Right way.

Shipping reels long distances for service can be expensive. How would having PRECISION service our reels be cost effective? Shipping can be expensive over great distances, but how does one measure the unwritten cost of using poorly maintained reels in the manufacturing process? Naturally, we encourage sending us full truckloads, but one look at our quality, turnaround and competitive pricing, and shipping is well worth the "cost."
[Back to List]
Are you capable of applying special lettering to newly painted reels? Yes. Application of a custom stencil is routinely done at our facility by our skilled finishing technicians. We will use color(s) specially selected by your company, if applicable, to restore the appearance of your reels and spools to "like new."
